Tissue Donation and Cremation

Almost everyone realizes that every year there are hundreds of lives that are saved by the donation of organs such as hearts and kidneys. But did you know that:

Donated tissues such as skin, bone, and heart valves can dramatically improve the quality of life for burn victims and save the life of cardiac patients who need a heart valve replacement?
Just ONE tissue donor can potentially benefit as many as 50 people?
The donation of tissues is possible when organ donation is not-this important fact helps many who wish to make a contribution, but cannot due to age or disease?
Many bereaved families take comfort in the knowledge that the death of their loved one has helped others to live.
Because organs and tissues are removed in procedures similar to surgery, and all incisions are closed at the conclusion of the surgery, an open casket funeral is possible after donation. Unlike organs, tissues can be donated up to 24 hours after a person's heart has stopped beating.
